Underhand (Right, Left, Right)
Clear the glove to the left side and out of the way so the second baseman has a clear view of the ball. Cross over with the right foot while making the feed. Keep a stiff wrist on the toss and never let your arm go above your shoulder. Follow the feed to ensure a firm feed with good direction. “Shake hands with the second baseman”.
Glove Side Middle Backhand
For a forehand that takes you up the middle, use a backhand feed. Keep your body down, stay under, and behind the ball for an uphill feed. The thumb goes underneath the ball, the wrist stays stiff, and the fingers finish straight up.
Away from the Bag
Get in front of the ball but field it a little bit to the glove side of center. Field the ball with your left foot back slightly to clear your hips as you throw the ball to second. Keep your body down, stay strong on the right foot, and throw the ball uphill.
Backhand in the Hole
If you field the ball with your left foot in front, plant hard on the right foot with your next step and open your hips to give yourself room to make the throw. If your right foot is in front, step with your left foot then jump off your right foot on the next step to make the throw. Exchange before you jump, then jump straight up.
