Bunt Position Checkpoints
Hold the bat about 12” away from the body with your elbows down.
The bat should be just below shoulder level with the barrel angled slightly up above the hands.
Athletic bend in the knees.
The bat should start at the top of the strike zone. Only bunt strikes!
Athletic bend at the waist to bring your head towards the plate and behind the bat.
Chin should be inside the front knee.
Movement down to the bottom of the strike zone is done with the knees in an elevator type fashion.
Set your bat angle and leave it. Do not try to guide the ball.
Bunt the ball first then run. Placement is more important than getting out of the box quickly.
Sacrifice Bunt Placement
For a sacrifice bunt, the goal is to place the bunt perfectly between the hurry and panic zone, but err towards the hurry zone.
There is no reason to flirt with foul line when sacrifice bunting.
Right Handed Technique
For a sacrifice bunt to third base, bring the right foot in to line of the batter's box to create a slightly open stance. Point the end of the bat just to the foul side of first base and focus on bunting the outside half of the baseball.
For a sacrifice bunt to first base, drop the right foot behind you towards the third base dugout then take a short jab step in and forward with your left foot. Focus on bunting the inside half of the baseball.
Left Handed Technique
For a sacrifice bunt to third base, bring your left foot to the inside line of the batter's box and in line with the first base foul line.
For a sacrifice bunt to first base, bring the right foot in to line of the batters box to create a slightly open stance. Point the end of the bat just to the foul side of third base and focus on bunting the outside half of the baseball.
