Pickoff Moves
Right Handed Pickoff Moves to First Base
Come set with your feet about shoulder width apart.
Disconnect your right foot from the rubber and pivot it in towards first base.
Turn your shoulders and step towards first base with your left foot.
Throw with a short and quick arm stroke.
Vary how long you hold the ball before picking or delivering a pitch. The long hold makes it difficult for a base stealer.
You have to throw the ball... you cannot fake to first base unless you step off the back of the rubber.
Pickoff Moves to Second Base
Spin Move to Second Base
Come set with your feet about shoulder width a part.
Disconnect your right foot from the rubber and pivot your heel to towards second base.
Turn glove side and pivot your body all the way around to step and throw to second base.
Throw with a short and quick arm stroke.
If the the timing is off with your infielder or the runner is back easily, you do not have to throw the ball.
Inside Move to Second Base
Lift your leg at the same pace and rhythm as if you were going to throw a pitch.
Do not rush it. This move is about deception, not quickness.
At the top of your leg lift, pivot your leg back towards second and across the rubber.
Step towards second base and be sure to clear the rubber with your foot.
Be prepared to run at the runner if he bites to force him to make a decision.
If the runner does not bite, simply hold the ball. You do not need to throw it.
